Yesterday, we had the opportunity to visit the University of Toronto's Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) department, where we were graciously given a tour of the Toronto Nano Fabrication Center (TNFC) and the Electronics and Energy Systems Labs.

Our tour began at the Pratt Building, where we met with Prof. W.T. Ng and Edward Xu from the ECE department, who manage the nano fabrication lab facility. We had the chance to explore the infrastructure that supports the nano fab, learn about the safety measures in place, and see some of the innovative projects that have emerged from the facility. We also discovered that industry partners have 24/7 access to the lab's measurement equipment. A big thank you to Prof. Ng and Edward for taking the time to show us around and provide such detailed explanations!

Ron and I then visited the Electronics and Energy Systems Labs, hosted by Afshin Poraria. He gave us an in-depth look at the lab's capabilities and its latest achievements in DC power systems. To wrap up the tour, we were shown the hardware used for EV research and modeling. It was clear that the ECE program is in tune with industry needs and is addressing real-world challenges in the growing field of electrification.

Our final stop was at the Myhal Centre for Engineering Innovation & Entrepreneurship. The center's modern open-space concept, with its ample seating, rapid-prototyping facility, and two-story multidisciplinary design and robotics space, combines functionality with architectural beauty.

As an ECE alumnus from the University of Toronto, it had been over a decade since my last visit. I’m grateful to Malgosia for organizing such an eye-opening tour and for having us there!
